4+11 = A Sad Circumstance

The young petite blonde hardly looked the part. Six felony charges against her. She stole from her employer. She used the company credit card to buy makeup. Makeup. Taking the stand on her own behalf, she stood and admitted her crimes. Admitted lying about her theft. The defense asked for leniency and pointed out she was a first time offender – not even a traffic ticket. When she stood to take the oath you could see something else. The 20 year old was 4 months pregnant.

Arguments from prosecution and defense. She paid some restitution. She lied to police. She made a mistake. Her employer suffered a big loss. Stand up. Judgment. 10 years per felony all suspended except for 11 months. And just like that she goes through a door away from everyone and everything. A baby will be born to a prisoner. Life and freedom and judgment and punishment. Temptation and fall. The story of our world told in 15 minutes in a circuit courtroom. Our sad circumstance.
